Wallstein Holding GmbH & Co. KG

Wallstein gets a contract for Europe's largest biomass plant

The Wallstein Group has received an order from Sumitomo (formerly Foster Wheeler), a major international customer, for the supply of a flue gas cooler, two air preheaters and the supple-mentary system components. The delivery is intended for the end-customer Tees Renewable Energy Plant.

The company is planning and building a wood pellet incinerator at Redcar and Cleveland, in the north-east of England. After commissioning, the plant will be burning approximately 1.1 million tons of wood pellets per year. These trees will be imported from sustainable forest cultivations in Europe and America. It will have an electrical output of 299 MW and will be therefore large enough to supply 600,000 households with electricity. The incinerator will start commercial operation in 2020.

Part of the order was already delivered by Wallstein in December 2017; further deliveries are scheduled for April 2018. Wallstein believes that the expansion of renewable energies, which deliver available power, is a very important factor in the success of the Energiewende (energy transition in Germany). Therefore, the company is proud to be able to contribute to this process.
