A futuristic caravan that you open up like a pocket knife New Zealand inventors have developed a high-tech caravan that looks like an Apple product and offers 70 percent more living space. The spring and summer as well as corresponding holiday planning are at hand...

...So it might be time to think about whether you fancy spending your next holiday as a camping tourist in a caravan. A high-tech version of a luxury caravan trailer was recently developed by two New Zealand designers. The concept caravan is called Romotow, should go into production in 2015 and is based on the technology of a Swiss Army Knife.
"Living in a corner" could describe the basic idea of the Romotow camper. Because the caravan can be opened up like a penknife after you have found a nice spot in the open air. The developers, Matt Wilkie and Stuart Winterbourn, promise aerodynamic design, 70 percent more living space and just three minutes to set it up. To date, their caravan reminiscent of an Apple product only exists as a computer animation and design study. But the caravan looks so modern and cool that it immediately got camping fans dreaming. The highlight is the completely new concept using folding knife technology. If the trailer is behind the car, it's compact and aerodynamic thanks to its rounded design. If it is parked, the living unit folds out from the outer shell, which in turn can be used as a kind of covered terrace. The living area is thus considerably increased. The Romotow is extremely innovative not only externally but also in the interior. Living area, kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom plus circular windows with blinds and outdoor lounge with BBQ. The caravan is to be constructed of lightweight materials. In addition, intelligent supports are provided that adjust themselves automatically and keep the vehicle level on all terrain. The developers, Wilkie and Winterbourn, are actually architects who thought about redesigning mobile living space not only for business reasons, but above all because they themselves are fans of camping and found normal caravans boring.
